Subject: Feeding the Spirit of the Sandra Schmirler Foundation
More than $6,500 was raised for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation at a
Saturday morning breakfast at the Roar of the Rings Canadian Curling
Trials in Regina. The Roaring Start Breakfast was sponsored by
Safeway.
"I can't think of a better way to begin the 2001 Canadian Curling
Trials than by honoring one of our greatest Olympic Champions," said
Bernadette McIntyre, president of the Roar of the Rings. "The funds
raised from this breakfas builds on the great legacy Sandra has left
in the curling community across the country."
The Roaring Start Breakfast at the trials marked the kick off to the
Opening Roar Weekend sponsored by Westjet.
"Players and fans all appreciate the contributions that Sandra made
to the community and the sport of curling," said Joan McCusker,
long-time second for Schmirler and board member of the Sandra
Schmirler Foundation. "We're grateful that Sandra's spirit lives on
through the Foundation. Today's fundraising effort has a direct
positive impact on children with serious illnesses."
The Sandra Schmirler Foundation was established in memory of the
three-time Olympic Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist. The
foundation is designed to assist families with children in need who
are facing life-threatening illnesses.
